Clevelanders took to the streets and braced below freezing temperatures on Tuesday, Jan. 20th to protest against recent raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) being held across the United States. The walkout took place at 4pm in Market Square, drawing in a crowd of about 150 people with signs demanding that the U.S. government “stop ICE terror”. This demonstration, which occurred on the anniversary of President Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration, was born from solidarity with Minneapolis after legal observer and mother of three, Renee Good, was murdered by federal agent Jonathan Ross on Wednesday, Jan. 7th of this year. Minneapolis has been undergoing constant protest since the death of Good with local workers unions calling for a general strike beginning Jan. 23rd, 2026. The demands of the strike include the dismissal of ICE from the city along with many promoting the abolishment of ICE in its entirety. Cleveland’s solidarity march honored Good along with Keith Porter, a father of two who was murdered by ICE on Dec. 31st 2025, through signs and chants calling for justice for the victims and the arrests of their killers. Among the speakers of the march was Greg Levy, a member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation running for Ohio senate in 2026. “Have you ever noticed how easy it is to get our elected officials to show up to some fancy awards, banquets funded by billionaires,” Levy said, "It's not hard to find them on corporate news sponsored by the weapons manufacturers destroying our world. But when we have our own state murdering workers and kidnapping workers in the streets, where the hell are our elected officials?” Levy goes on to ask where Clevelander’s elected officials are right now as the crowd answers “not here”. He speaks to his own campaign for senate and draws attention to the fact he runs for the people, with the people. Although the demonstration was centered around ICE and its abolishment, it had no lack of solidarity from other movements. Noelle Naser, from The Cleveland Palestine Advocacy Community spoke up to draw the connection between the Palestinian genocide enacted by Israel and the terror to our communities being driven by the US government. “Because if there is anything that our coalition deeply understands, it's that all of our liberation is tied together” Naser said. “If you have noticed any parallels between ICE and the Israeli Occupation Forces there is a reason. ICE is being molded in their image. The US Department of Homeland Security and police departments across the US have a long history of collaborative programs with the IOF, often referred to as ‘The Deadly Exchange’”. The exchange mentioned ties together the IOF and ICE tactics of surveillance, crowd control, and media propaganda. Naser also points to the mirroring of Israeli tactics of preventing aid to Palestinians with ICE officials refusing to let medical aid reach Good at the time of her murder. The march finished up in a little over an hour, with calls to action encouraging individuals to get involved with organizations like the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), who promote ideas of abolishing ICE and pushing for liberation on a global scale. Greg Levy was able to provide The People’s Press with words of encouragement for those who want to get involved with the cause. “There is a fight back and there is solidarity available and we are working our asses off to try to bring that and coalesce that so we can make a difference, right now, when it matters”.
